As the end of the year fast approaches, it’s a great time to clean out the closets and get rid of any unwanted items you or your children may have outgrown. There are hundreds of families in Mesquite in need of clothing this holiday season and MISD provides a simple way to connect those who have clothing to donate with those looking for support.
The Clothes Closet, run by the Mesquite ISD Council of PTAs, provides clothing to more than 500 Mesquite students each school year.
Located at 220C Pioneer Road next to the Learning Center and behind Sonic, the Clothes Closet’s hours of operation vary. Currently, it’s open Tuesdays from 6 to 8PM and Saturdays from 10AM until noon. It closes when school is not in session.
To prepare clothes for donation, it’s helpful, but not required, to wash all items beforehand. Make sure to be considerate, and closely inspect the items before donation and exclude items that are overly worn, contain holes or soiled. Donation centers are always in need of denim, professional attire, baby items and gently worn shoes.
There are also volunteer opportunities available to help sort clothes and work in the store. No advanced noticed is required, so feel free to stop by the store during open hours.
In need of clothes? Please see any MISD school nurse or counselor and complete the necessary paperwork so that Clothes Closet can fill your request.
