The rebuild of I.N. Range Elementary is scheduled to begin soon, following the Board’s approval of the schematic design in December. The plan for the new building includes a land-swap agreement with the city. The new building is to be built over the existing city park, and the park will relocate to where the school is currently situated.
The design of the new school is similar to plans used for Floyd Elementary, with the exception of a more traditional stair and elevator combination for students and faculty to move between the campus’ two floors. To accommodate after-hours activities, the building will feature separate entrances to the library, cafeteria and gymnasium.
The city’s new park will feature a lighted baseball field, playground, basketball courts, soccer field and a walking trail around the property.
There are currently 581 students enrolled at Range Elementary, and the new building will have capacity for up to 930 students at full build-out.
The Guaranteed Maximum Price for the rebuild will be presented to the Board for approval during the regular board meeting on March 2. The scheduled completion date is slated for July 2016.
